"If you're a champion, you have to have it in your heart." - Chris Evert
Madison started in Judo on June 1st 2006 at Ruben Martin Judo. Since then she has competed in 71 tournaments and has brought home 38 Gold Medals, 22 Silver Medals and 9 Bronze Medals.
Her 1st year in Judo she placed 1st in the Texas State Junior Olympics and she placed 2nd at the USJA Junior Nationals in Indianapolis, IN; USA Judo Junior Olympics in San Antonio, TX and Junior US Open in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
In August 2007, she was featured in the Burleson-Crowley Connection newspaper for her accomplishments. We were contacted by Madison's sensei, while at the Junior Open Championships in Florida, saying that there was a reporter that wanted to do a story on Madison. Her father and I were in shock! We didn't understand why and how they knew about Madison. I thought they were confused and wanted to do a story on her dojo. When I contacted the reporter she said that Madison came up on a Google alert on her computer and she was impressed by her and wanted to do a story. We were so excited for Madison, what an opportunity for her and to spread the word about Judo.
I volunteer for the dojo trying to get them publicity and get press for the players that are working so hard. They have practice 4 days a week depending on the timing of tournaments. She usually trains 4 days a week during the school year unless a tournament is coming up. Madison works very hard in school to maintain A/B grades. This year, 2011, Madison has started homeschool so that she can be able to train, travel and most of all rest.
Madison has accomplished a lot in her short career. She has had to try harder for her wins because she is an asthmatic. Her father and I have raised her to know that she can accomplish anything that she sets her mind to, no matter what is standing in her way. I know that God has big plans in store for her.
Sponsors are appreciated and will be needed in the future to continue her travel.
